alternate CSD and STILLMAN DIET?

Postby tissy on Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:55 pm

i've been reading up! stillman is what many do when the week of cabbage soup is over because of the high protein/low carb. that's what i'm gonna do!
how does everyone work it? 3 weeks on stillman, then a week on CSD, is that the norm?

i was thinking of alternating each week. i just want the fastest results. i have over a hundred pounds to lose! any thoughts? how long of a break should i take from CSD for the best results?

i would've thought staying on CSD for a month straight would work, but i see posts on here saying it doesn't. you have to break it up i guess.

day two is going great! i have lots of energy and feel fantastic, although i am always kind of hungry no matter what, even after my potato. i had a dream last night that i was gorgeous and seductive  i must be on the right track!

oh! ok. yes, i thought it looked pretty strict---and expensive. (that would be a lot of shrimp cocktail and chicken!) you are right about the quick fixes and losing control.
i've stayed on atkins for months at a time in the past, and i enjoy it. i love atkins, really. the long plateaus are what always made me give up. i always think i will go off atkins for a few days and jump back on to get losing again, but i don't get back on. then so much time goes by before i feel ready to start over, for some reason.
so maybe i should think of it as this: i am on atkins, and i do a week of cabbage soup to keep the weight coming off?

Hi Trini,
:crybaby2: Ben is woman please not male as you mention"He" :) It's OK. The full name is Benardette so i made short to Ben did'nt mean to be a tom-boy.

I totally agree with you. The Stillman stuff does not work for every body type but I find it great with me. It is not adviceable to switch diets immediately without room to rest and recuperate by eating healthy for a week or two at least. When you lose too much in a short while like I did it is not healthy and you stand a big chance of falling sick like I did. Pleased to inform you I have all my five motivation gears in motion, the journey continues. My next shortterm goal is 15lbs in 6 weeks.

Tissy, Normally I do CSD for a week, rest for another week (eating healthy) before I plunge into Stillman for one week. Though I'll be doing it for 2wks next time which will be like the induction phase of the Atkins diet. You can Actually do it for 2 wks or more (up to a month)depending on your needs and how much you can cope with it.

From my expirience so  I can confirm to a greater degree of certainty the hypothesis that you need to trick your body to loose. The moment you body gets use to a routine or the same eating pattern your metabolism slows down or shuts. You need to trick it always. I would agree with you to alternate the CSD,Stillman and the Alternate Day ot One Day Up Day Down diets. I have tried those and the results were outstanding.

Most importantly keep the motivation level high.

thanks for all the info, trini and ben. it's so great to have experienced people to help me out with this.
well, it seems i have a LONG way to go before i would even be able to do stillman anyway! hahaha
my week of cabbage soup has taught me a lot:

my end-of-the-night drinks may be a full fledged drinking problem as i could not go the whole week without alcohol.
besides drinks on night 3, i stuck to CSD until day 4. i was seriously starved and my head hurt. the back of my head and my neck were throbbing and i wasn't thinking very clearly. must be not enough water. i had some bananas and i small piece of pizza. also some homemade chicken soup. the pain stopped.
i began to have scrambled eggs for breakfast days 5-7, and followed the rest of the food plan except for that, but i drank all of those nights.

i lost exactly 5 pounds, and i am very happy with that, since i have not worked one bit of excercise in yet, and am still struggling with giving up alcohol.
the best thing about this first attempt at CSD is that it reduced my appetite to a somewhat normal level. it really did. i am still motivated and when i try again next month, i should be able to follow it all the way.

trini, the atkins board i always went to is called active low carber forums. but i will check out yours too. i love getting support on message boards. it's weird how you have to kind of get obsessed with this kind of stuff, but the people in your life aren't the ones who neccesarily want to hear it. and you're right on with FOCUS----it's the mindless choices that got me here, and focus is the opposite of that!! i see that some of you make charts and track things, and that's what i have to learn.

I did not have space to add this above, but you've got me in one of those "Don't make me put on my Combat Boots and start kicking your B@tt" moods. Oh yes, I wore Combat Boots for 4 yrs in USAF.

I will be here for you if you need help, or just to 'talk'.

Hi ladies,
you really should check out www.minimins.com
I go between there and here all the time.
It is a great weight loss forum with several different diets on it. You can find out about many different diets and peoles experiences on them, what works, what doesn't etc. the fforum is very supportive, just like here. You make make up weight loss tickers to follow the progress of your weight and have pictures and other fun stuff. I am on there too. My name on there is soozsb if you ever want to contact me there. I sometimes follow the alternate day diet and it is really good especially for peope who need to sometimes have something they wouldn't be allowed to have on a very strict diet. It is a controlled diet, you can't go wild on the alternate days of course or you won't lose weight, but you can have that drink or chocolate or whatever on the "up day". So for pwople who have a hard time sticking to a diet every day, its the perfect diet for them. Then once a month I come back to CSD and follow that for a week. It cleans out my system and helps me lose more weight.\
Also TISSY, have you tried asking your doctor for an appetite suppressant like Meridia or Reductil? I take it and it REALLY helps control my hunger big time. You should talk to your doctor and see if its right for you. Its not right for everyone, but most people can take. I hope this info helps everyone. Good luck t you all. I am sure you will all get there. :D

yep, unfortunately it is that bad, trini. i have been a heavy drinker since i turned 21. (13 years) i also smoke almost a pack a day! mindless stuff!!! i feel gross all the time, feel like i just crawled out of a coffin after i first wake up.

BUT i did of course quit drinking and smoking for 8 months while i was pregnant.
so that proves that I CAN DO IT...if my head is screwed on straight

jeez, the thoughts of giving up my alcohol altogether just kinda scares me somehow. i can't even comprehend it. no way to unwind, no "me time." no me.
thanks for the pep talk, i read it like 3 times, and i know you are right. i have to want to change these habits, if i'm gonna do this. you did it, and you're skinny now. so i'm taking heed.

going to gym for first time ever tomorrow...found one with a daycare. no one to watch the kid was my big excuse until now. i'm pretty sure that will help a lot with the drink ban and feeling better.

thanks for the tip sooz! i looked at the up day/down day diet, and it looks like a good one for a beginner. short term goals, good way to learn calorie contents and looks like a good way to transition into healthy eating. i've read a little bit about calorie shifting. i will have to learn more about JUDDD and see if it works for me.

sticking to induction for now, starting exercise/ no booze tomorrow!

Hey Tissy ,
Just reading your posts this morning. I thought it would be hard too. I used to have a glass of wine or two after work while preparing dinner. I was worried about being able to do CSD without the wine and the diet coke. I found the first time I did it, I was so focused on what I could and could not eat that I really did well without both. Of course my weeks off, I still occasionally have one or the other. OKAY so here it a little trick...that I use during my weeks off of CSD. I really do think the wine aided in my added poundage after my ordeal (You can read my first post on this forum to see what) My little trick or replacement is to find a fun glass(wine or other) Kirkland's and Bed bath and beyond etc usually have some fun ones. Now, I fill the glass with sparkling water and a twist of some citrus fruit(orange, lime, lemon etc). You are still drinking out of a fancy wine glass and getting that "oral " fix. You drink whatever healthy concoction during the time you usually imbibe. Don't get me wrong, I still imbibe(but not as much)and not during CSD week. I hope it makes sense to you. It may help :star: It is worth a try :hmm: Okay so here is an added bonus...less money spent! Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Trini,
One thing at a time. I agree. Okay here is a nosy question. Are you planning of quitting smoking after you get to your goal weight?
Now I have to worry about you smoking with the Asthma  You have accomplish so much since starting CSD that I know you can do this also when the time is right for you. Like you said one thing at a time. Okay so I don't have combat boots but I do have some 2-stepping boots! They have a wicked point.

My son left the Wii at a friend's house(still haven't bought a separate scale..my car always prefers to head home after work instead of out to buy a scale.)
I will weigh in tomorrow and see what the damage of the last 2 weekends have done. :banghead:

Good luck to everyone this week. Who is doing CSD? Trini, if you feel good enough will you be ready the week after Thanksgiving? That will be my last time until I start you know what after the Holidays. Okay so what are pork rinds...?
